Textured Pea Protein: The best vegan meat substitute
Textured Pea Protein from FoodSeries is isolated pea protein, similar to what you can find in our EssentialSeries line, but undergoing an extrusion process to achieve a unique consistency that allows its use, once rehydrated, as if it were ground beef.
Textured pea protein is a type of 'TVP', an English term known for these preparations, developed as a way for people not used to consuming plant proteins to reduce their animal protein intake, and for those already following vegan diets to have alternatives with a rheology similar to traditional meat preparations, but without the consequences of the meat industry.
Textured pea protein has no added additives, fats, or other ingredients; it is 100% pea protein, expertly prepared to achieve the best result without affecting its nutritional composition.
An ingredient you won't lack again:
82% high-quality protein. With all essential amino acids
Pea protein is traditionally characterized as a high-quality plant protein source, especially when dehydrated, with a naturally high protein content and a good amino acid profile.
Often, it is combined with cereals to improve its amino acid spectrum. However, peas have all essential amino acids without the need to add them, as you can see in the amino acid profile of our textured pea protein.
Enjoy a meat-like food with a higher protein content, ideal for vegans looking to increase their protein intake, enjoying food, without losing their animal-product-free condition.
Allergen-free. An alternative to extruded soy
A common TVP is textured soy; it consists of protein extracted from soybeans, to which gums and other additives, as well as fats like canola or palm, are usually added to facilitate the extrusion process and achieve its 'texturization'.
In our case, we have chosen not to include any additives, making our extruded protein take longer to produce, but achieving a better final result in terms of texture and flavor, and most importantly: Without worsening its nutritional quality in any way.
Another advantage of our textured pea protein is the absence of allergens, since traditional soy and its preparations are allergenic due to soybeans; whereas peas are not. Additionally, our textured pea protein is not mixed with other textured proteins like many products on the market, which are usually mixed with wheat protein, meaning: gluten.
Our textured protein is gluten-free and free from any other allergens: milk, soy. No allergens!
GMO-free. Responsible cultivation of peas
The peas used for the isolation of the protein that we extrude for our product come from responsible cultivation, meaning from farmers and companies that follow cultivation and harvesting practices that do not harm the environment, unlike other companies that commercialize foods made with farmed vegetables, a practice we at HSN reject.
We are committed to taking care of society, offering healthy food at a fair price, and taking care of our environment through the choice of the best raw materials, not only for their nutritional composition but also for their origin, treatment, and obtainment.
No added fats or additives. 100% Pea Protein
The usual procedure to prepare traditional TVP involves adding extra ingredients before the extrusion process to make it easier.
This is problematic because the added ingredients decrease the total pea protein content, which is the desired food to consume, even in textured form; and often, the added compounds are not healthy, as they are fat sources that help the protein extrusion.
However, we have tested until obtaining an ideal result, with the best texture and nutritional composition without adding ANYTHING.
Our textured pea protein is just that: 100% Extruded isolated pea protein, without any added ingredients.
Treatment: Isolated - Isolated, textured pea protein
It is common for companies to use concentrated proteins to prepare extruded foods, why? Because they are cheaper.
Concentrated proteins have a better extraction grade from the original source, and therefore their final protein content is lower, around 50-70%.
Our extruded pea protein is an isolated pea protein, of the best quality, with a 82% protein composition. The best protein intake for your 100% plant-based recipes!
Cholesterol-free - Healthier than red meat
Extruded pea protein emerges as a substitute for the texture and preparation ideas of ground red meat, and as a healthier alternative to this food.
Numerous international health organizations, such as the WHO, have warned about the high consumption of red meat maintained by the Western population, particularly processed red meat, and urge people to increase their consumption of plant protein sources as a partial replacement for animal sources. However, this can be difficult since the most similar meat substitute for this purpose until now is tofu, which realistically differs significantly from meat in everything: texture, flavor, consistency, etc. Even if it can be prepared deliciously, it is NOT a meat substitute as such.
Textured pea protein is, with organoleptic properties equivalent to meat in flavor and texture, and with all the good protein and iron content of red meat, without cholesterol and with a much lower saturated fat content. Ideal for people who want to take care of themselves.
How to prepare it? HSN recommendations
The most basic way to prepare it is to boil it for 10-15 minutes, and it’s ready to eat.
Another alternative way is to boil water in a pot or a bowl in the microwave and pour it over the textured protein, letting it sit for 15 minutes to rehydrate.
However, you shouldn't limit yourself to this, as you can use the 'crisps' of textured pea protein to prepare a multitude of recipes, from something that maintains its traditional form: for example, ground meat for use in a pasta Bolognese sauce; to transformation into meat-like aggregates, such as burgers or meatballs, but in a vegan version.
Once rehydrated, you can prepare the textured pea protein however you want:
Your imagination is the limit!
Not just a food for vegans!
A common question is whether a food of these characteristics, which seems so specific for people who follow diets without meat, is only for these people; however, the truth is no, as it is a very tasty option, easy to prepare, very flexible for use in all kinds of recipes and also very healthy.
It certainly fits into a vegan diet, where it can be used as the main source of plant protein, but it can also be used as a regular food in an omnivorous diet, even coexisting in the same recipe with other non-vegetable ingredients, why not? Add the extruded pea protein to improve the result of your dishes with more flavor, incredible texture, and good nutritional content.
Why choose this option over others?
High hydration capacity - More volume and better texture
Other vegetable texturizers do not significantly increase their volume with rehydration and only soften.
Our textured protein significantly increases in size when boiled for rehydration, and its consistency improves, obtaining a soft result while maintaining its good internal texture, al dente, with a result similar to meat.
Good exterior roasting - Ideal for grilling and frying
Rehydration does not make the textured protein lose its ability to toast, nor does toasting simply 'dehydrate' the food.
The preparation without additives of our textured protein is ideal as it makes the preparation more natural, ideal for frying or grilling, achieving a good crispy exterior layer even in an air fryer.
Optimal texture: Juicy and consistent... Like real meat
Thanks to rehydration, the result of textured pea protein is juicy, reminiscent of red meat cooked to perfection, even after cooking, as it does not lose as much liquid as the muscle fibers of traditional meat which needs a high-fat content to avoid being dry, negatively affecting its nutritional profile.
Extruded pea protein, lean, remains juicy easily, without difficulties.
However, 'juicy' does not mean 'soft' as its internal consistency is 'al dente', very similar to meat, and the exterior can be toasted with dry heat from the oven or air fryer, as well as in the pan.
Should you add it to your regular diet?
If you are a vegan looking for a new plant protein source that allows you to cook new recipes and enjoy them; it is definitely ideal for you.
And if you are an athlete, or not, with a high meat consumption, let’s say: every day, and you are looking to reduce it without losing the beneficial protein intake. Without a doubt, this food is for you.
