OPC Complex - Your Natural Oligomeric Proanthocyanidin Supplement
OPC Complex (Grape Seed Extract) by EssentialSeries is a food supplement in vegetable capsules developed from Vitis vinifera seed extract. It is standardised with a high content of Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins (95% OPC) and also contains Thiamine HCl and natural Vitamin C from Acerola berry extract.
Grape seeds naturally contain fibre, proteins, lipids (in the form of fat and oil), carbohydrates, minerals, and 5-8% native content of polyphenolic compounds (such as tannins). This depends on the variety and other factors such as climate, soil, or degree of ripening (Bordiga, 2015).
OPC Complex is a formula made from a grape seed extract standardised in high concentrations of the most representative compounds of Vitis vinifera: Oligomeric proanthocyanidins.
HSN Formula | With all guarantees
From certified species: 100% Vitis vinifera - The best source of OPCs
Grape seeds are the main product of the grape processing industry as they are used to make grape juice and wine. Grape seeds are highly valuable for their polyphenol content.
Compounds such as OPCs are present in more plants, as they are not exclusive to the grape seed, but if we were to crown one source as the clear winner in terms of quantity and structure of these compounds, it is the grape seed.
Source | mg proanthocyanidins per 100g of food |
Grape seeds | 3532 |
Blueberries | 332 |
Apples | 70-141 |
Pears | 32-42 |
Hazelnuts | 501 |
Dark Chocolate | 1636 |
At HSN we exclusively use seeds of the Vitis vinifera species for the development of our product, a 100% certified species without mixing hybrids of other botanical species. Thus, ensuring the highest quality of nutritionally active compounds naturally provided by the plant.
Highly concentrated extract - 20:1 Ratio - No use of aggressive solvents
To achieve the higher nutritional concentration characteristic of grape seeds, we have concentrated the seeds into an extract 20 times more concentrated.
The extraction has been carried out following non-aggressive treatments with the raw material, thus avoiding the typical extraction methods used in the industry with aggressive solvents, such as acetone or methanol. HSN uses only mild solvents to obtain the purest OPC extract, without altering its native oligomeric structures.
We control all the details of the extraction process to achieve the best quality of our herbal extracts, certifying species, identification, purity, and concentration. The best for your nutrition!
The grape seed extract production batches are analysed by highly sensitive laboratory methods to certify their assured minimum content of 95% OPC, also guaranteeing their oligomeric structure.
Correctly structured OPCs: Only dimers and trimers. Certified high control
Proanthocyanidins are polymers composed primarily of monomers such as catechins and epigallocatechins. They usually have covalent bonds between carbons called 'B-type' or form additional bonds between adjacent monomers called 'A-type'.
The common, naturally occurring connection of the oligomeric proanthocyanidins, which is the one present in our OPC complex, is the B-type.
Taking as a reference the grape seed itself, from which we obtain our extract rich in oligomeric proanthocyanidins, the main proanthocyanidin subtypes can be found:
They contain only dimers and trimers.
It is important to note that many OPC supplements on the market offer you oligomeric proanthocyanidins, when in fact they are not. This particular type of proanthocyanidin is reduced to the union of two or three monomers, no more, otherwise, they form polymeric proanthocyanidins, which are other compounds with different nutritional kinetics.
Our OPC Complex provides 570mg of real Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins, composed exclusively of dimers and trimers per daily dose.
Formula supplemented with natural Vitamin C (from Acerola) and Thiamine HCl - Synergistic Activity
OPC Complex is a food supplement developed with a complete formula, providing a high concentration of water-soluble vitamins. C and B1.
Vitamin C is pure natural ascorbic acid from acerola berry extract (Malpighia glabra) added to the formula. Vitamin B1, on the other hand, has been provided through the use of thiamine hydrochloride. Both forms are highly concentrated and bioavailable.
What are oligomeric proanthocyanidins and why are they present in grape seed?
In nature, oligomeric proanthocyanidins provide defence mechanisms for plants against pathogens and predators.
Due to their unique aroma and special chemical structure, proanthocyanidins can repel insects. In addition, they support the resistance of plants against various stressors that may be encountered during growth, boosting their survival rate under adverse development conditions.
OPC Complex Properties - Loaded with Natural Antioxidants
The OPC Complex formula is especially linked to the circulatory system properties of its compounds. This is partly because grapes are a source of antioxidants and because the proanthocyanidins in grape seeds have been shown to possess various antioxidant activities.
First of all, thanks to its thiamine content, OPC Complex (Grape Seed Extract) contributes to the normal functioning of the heart.
In addition, it supports the blood vessels themselves, firstly through its main source of grape seed, as Vitis vinifera has a beneficial effect on blood pressure. Secondly, vitamin C contributes to the normal formation of collagen for the normal functioning of the blood vessels.
Recommendations for use and combination by HSN experts
OPC Complex, grape seed extract rich in oligomeric proanthocyanidins, can be combined with any food supplement as it has no general contraindications for use with any other product. However, the recommended combination for the benefits it offers when combined with other supplements are:
