They are almost tasteless, only slightly salty, but I like them. It's hard to tell if they are effective or not but I find them enjoyable to drink during my MTB workouts. It makes it easier for me to drink and stay hydrated. It's hard to get the last few scoops out of the bottom of the bag because of the irregular shape. What I do is empty the first day the pouch into a clean empty peanut butter jar and ale.
